Houthi Fighters Try to Take Control of Mount Jarra in Taiz

Violent clashes between Houthi forces and the Popular Resistance armed group broke out in the area surrounding Mount Jarra, close to 40 Street, in Taiz.

Alaa Aladeemy one of the residents said that the clashes started very early in the morning and lasted the whole day, he also confirmed that many shells hit civilian houses on 40 Street, which is controlled by the Popular Resistance under the command of Sheikh Hamoud Al-Mekhlafi.

The numbers of dead and injured were not revealed by any governmental source but medical sources said that at least 26 civilians have been admitted to medical centers with different levels of injuries, while locals said that dozens of dead and wounded were sustained by both sides.

Al-Jazeera reported that 7 Houthi fighters were killed in an ambush near Albarah Cement Factory, while the Saudi led coalition targeted the 35th Brigade Camp.

“Most of Taiz residents are spending Ramadan away from their original homes, they became refugees in villages and provinces. The city is almost empty due the heavy shelling the province is witnessing,” said Aladeelmy

Houthi forces have been trying to take control of Taiz since last March, while Popular Resistance with the help of the Saudi-led coalition have been trying to prevent them from controlling the entire province. Houthi fighters backed by forces loyal to the former President Ali Abdullah Saleh control the northern entrance route to Taiz including Al Hawban area which is currently considered a base for Houthi forces.
