Houthi Leader Incites Violations Against Journalists and Politicians

Local sources said that Abdulmalek Al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi movement incited his militants and those who are part of the People’s Committee to arrest journalists, activists, and politicians who speak or express any views against the Houthi movement.

In a televised interview broadcast by Al-Alam and Al-Mayadeen channel, Abdulmalek said, “These mercenaries and traitors from the class of intellectuals, politicians, and journalists are more dangerous to this country than the mercenaries fighting alongside the aggression in the field, the army and the people’s committees should address them promptly.”

Locals said that panic has spread among journalists, intellectuals, and political and human rights activists, “We are all in hide-out, we are suppressed, Houthi used all type of violent acts against us, many of us have been killed, others beaten up,  and many are still held hostages…what more can be done?” said one of the journalists in Sana’a.

Human rights activists fear that Abdulmalek’s speech will encourage his militants on the ground to increase the prosecution rate of those who oppose the actions of violence by Houthi militants.

On the 21st of September Houthis celebrate one year since they took over the capital, Sana’a.
