Abbas calls on France to Recognize Palestinian State (with VIDEO REPORT)

Macron voices continued support for two-state solution during Wednesday evening meeting in Ramallah

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron in Ramallah, the West Bank, late Wednesday evening and expressed hope that France would recognize the State of Palestine.

The two leaders warmly embraced and went on to have a short meeting.

Macron told Abbas that Paris supports a peace process between Israel and the Palestinians based on a two-state solution.

Abbas urged his French counterpart to exert pressure on Israel to allow Palestinians living in East Jerusalem to take part in PA elections, and also called on the European Union to recognize Palestine.

“We wish that the European states – which believe in the two-state solution – and France will recognize the State of Palestine along the [pre-]1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Abbas told Macron.

The two leaders did not address representatives of the media after their meeting.
