Ancient Lod Mosaic Returns Home to Israel After Years Away

After years of traveling around the globe, the stunning 1,700-year-old Lod Mosaic has found its way back home to Israel and is on public display there for the first time.

One of the largest and best-preserved mosaic floors ever unearthed in Israel, the mosaic was recently unveiled at the new Shelby White and Leon Levy Lod Mosaic Archaeological Center.

The unique artwork was first uncovered in 1996 in the central Israel city of Lod; it features colorful depictions of animals, boats, and hunting.
