Israel and the Gaza-Strip-based Islamic Jihad officially agreed to a ceasefire early Thursday following two days of violence involving air strikes and rocket fire.
Egypt mediated the truce, with input from UN Middle East envoy Nikolay Mladenov.
At least 34 people were killed in the Gaza Strip, while several dozen Israelis were injured or treated for shock. The Health Ministry in Gaza City said about half of the dead were civilians, although Israel insists that most were members of Islamic Jihad.
