Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Iran’s foes Thursday of agitating for war, as the US and its Gulf allies stepped up their rhetoric over Saturday’s attacks on two Saudi oil facilities.
“‘Act of war’ or AGITATION for WAR?,” Zarif tweeted, in a reference to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s accusation that Iran was responsible for the assault.

Pompeo was in Saudi Arabia this week and backed Riyadh’s “right to defend itself.” He said that Iran’s behavior would “not be tolerated.”
The developments have raised the risk of a conflict in the volatile Gulf region, after the weekend strikes on Saudi oil assets temporarily cut the kingdom’s output by almost half, thus rattling energy markets.
