Who is the New Head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps? (AUDIO INTERVIEW)

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami to head the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which the US this month officially designated a “foreign terrorist organization.”

Analysts consider Salami, who replaced Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ali Jafari, a hard-liner that earlier this year vowed to “break America, Israel, and their partners…[in order to] cleanse the planet from the filth of their existence.”

The moves comes as Iran remains enmeshed in the wars in Syria and Yemen, and as renewed US sanctions begin to bite.

The Media Line spoke with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh, Director of the London-based Center for Iranian and Arab Studies, about the change and how it could impact on conflicts raging throughout the Middle East.
