The Turkish port company Yilport was disqualified from participating in a tender for the privatization of Israel’s state-owned Haifa Port, Israeli media reported on Monday. According to the reports, in the financial newspapers Calcalist, Globes and TheMarker, Yilport was taken out of the running in a discussion involving Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and representatives of Israel’s defense establishment and Finance and Foreign Affairs ministries, due to concerns related to Israel’s security and foreign relations. According to the reports in the press, Yilport is suspected of having ties not only with the Turkish government but also with the Iran-backed Lebanese armed group Hizbullah. The Israeli Government Companies Authority notified the group that registered for the tender, which includes American, British, and Israeli companies together with the Turkish company, that it would not be considered. Four groups remain in the privatization race, including companies from India, Israel, and the UK.
