The Jordanian military shot down a drone originating in Syria and bearing a load of crystal meth, according to Jordanian news agency Petra. The drugs were handed over to “competent authorities” after the drone was “taken control of and downed,” said a source within the Jordanian Armed Forces.

Jordan has caught Syrian-based drones carrying drugs and weapons in the past. In June alone, the Jordanian army shot down three drones attempting to cross the border, with one carrying arms. However, crystal meth is a first.
Over the course of its 12-year civil war, Syria has become home to a bustling multimillion-dollar drug trade, mainly smuggling to Gulf states via Jordan. Although Syria and Jordan have met several times to discuss cooperation in preventing drug trafficking, Syrian President Bashar Assad has denied Syria’s specific role in the illicit trade.
