An Arab Israeli woman who serves in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, and who is arguably one of the loudest and most aggressively anti-Israel voices in public life today, has been sanctioned by the Knesset Ethics Committee in response to complaints filed by other lawmakers about her public remarks and writings, found that Hanin Zoabi “deviated from the legitimate spectrum of discourse for a member of Knesset. Her remarks contained identification with the enemies of the state.” In a recent article, Zoabi urged Palestinians to eschew negotiations in favor of declaring a popular resistance against Israel. She has recently been involved in physical clashes with Israeli police at anti-Israel demonstrations and has compared Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip to those of Hitler. Zoabi and her supporters charge the sanctions are anti-democratic and an attempt to silence free speech. For six months Zoabi will not be allowed to attend parliament committee meetings and plenum sessions.
