The Hamas-run Health Ministry reported Tuesday that 5,791 Palestinians had been killed and another 16,297 wounded in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli airstrikes. These strikes were launched in response to a significant incursion and attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians, including a series of massacres in Israeli towns and villages and at a music festival. The Hamas terrorist offensive, starting on October 7, resulted in at least 1,400 deaths and 5,132 wounded in Israel, and the abduction by Hamas of more than 220 Israelis and foreign nationals as hostages. The conflict has seen escalating casualties on both sides, as well as the displacement of 1.4 million Palestinians and 200,000 Israelis, as efforts for a cease-fire continue to stall.
