The gunmen demanded that any officials who worked for deposed dictator Muammar Gaddafi not be allowed to hold senior positions in the new administration. Armed groups also tried to storm the Ministry of Interior and the state news agency. The violence comes days after the French embassy in Tripoli was bombed and raised concerns that the new Libyan government will not be able to impose its authority. “These attacks will never get us down and we will not surrender,” Prime Minister Ali Zaidan said. “Those who think the government is frustrated are wrong. We are very strong and determined.”
