The four-day Hajj, or annual pilgrimage, to Islam’s holy sites began on Monday morning. The event includes visits to several locations, beginning with a circuit of the holy Ka’ba stone in Mecca. At least 1.5 million people have traveled to Saudi Arabia for the week, which culminates in the ‘Id Al-A’dha festival. Among the mix of visitors are Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad and some 4,500 Israeli Muslims, who have been granted temporary Jordanian citizenship in order to be allowed into the kingdom.
