Next month Iranians will choose a successor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinajad. The Guardian Council, a constitutional watchdog that supervises the elections, has to vet the applicants befor allowing them to run in the June 14 election. The list of candidates will be announced later this month. Ahmadinajad has been the focus of criticism for comments calling for Israel to be “wiped off the map”.
