Israel has removed itself as the middle-man in the sale of Jordanian meat and produce to the Palestinian Authority, allowing a more economic and timely transfer of goods. On Wednesday, the first shipment of vegetables grown in Jordan crossed the Allenby Bridge directly into the hands of Palestinian sellers who until now had to buy the product from Israelis who in turn had bought the goods from the Jordanians. A formal agreement regarding the details of agricultural trade between Jordan and the PA is said to be in the drafting stages and is expected to be signed soon. While the first shipments were limited to vegetables, fruits and animal products will soon be sold directly as well. An agreement was signed last fall giving the Palestinians the ability to sell directly and to all Jordanian and Palestinians postal services to bypass Israeli intervention.
