Hundreds of additional police officers were deployed on the streets of eastern Jerusalem on Tuesday, along with heightened security around Jewish homes on the West Bank and at Umm Al-Fahm in northern Israel. Stone throwing and protests by Arabs sympathizing with Gazans took place in Jerusalem on Monday, with several arrests. Police fear a repeat on Tuesday and are also concerned that Palestinians may choose to attack Israeli vehicles driving on West Bank roads. Thousands of Israeli Arabs are expected to attend a rally in Umm Al-Fahm objecting to Israel’s operation in Gaza, which ended in the early hours of Monday.
