Israel’s Foreign Ministry reacted angrily to a call by European Union foreign policy head Javier Solana to set a timeframe for the creation of a Palestinian state. During a lecture in London on Saturday, Solana said, “After a fixed deadline, a UN Security Council resolution should proclaim the adoption of the two-state solution." The Israeli reaction condemned “another demand setting an artificial deadline” saying it “harms the chances of actually reaching a bilateral agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.” The Israelis also reminded Solana that UN resolutions leave such decisions to the parties to negotiate.
