Walid Jumblatt, the longtime leader of Lebanon’s Progressive Socialist Party, is threatening to withdraw his support for the Hizbullah-backed coalition that has been unable to seat a government despite months of trying. It was Jumblatt’s jump from supporting ousted Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri to backing Hizbullah’s candidate, Najib Mikati, that made Mikati the prime minister-designate. But months of sectarian fighting over which bloc will get the interior portfolio has soured Jumblatt on prospects for the new government according to the Daily Star in Beirut. Writing in his party’s newspaper, Jumblatt said the new government “totally failed.”
