New International Airport Slated for Southern Israeli Resort Area

Israel’s cabinet on Sunday approved plans to build the nation’s second international airport, to be located in Timna, in the south of the country near the resort city of Eilat. The existing airport is a small facility literally inside the city of Eilat. The new airport is seen as incentive for international carriers and tour operators to increase their offerings to the Red Sea resort while freeing up prime property in Eilat for development. The project will cost $478 million and take three years to complete once construction begins.
