World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking had accepted an invitation to attend an academic conference to be hosted by Israeli President Shimon Peres in June. According to The Guardian, he changed his mind after pressure from Palestinian colleagues. The report said that Hawking, 71, told Peres hew as pulling out “based on his knowledge of Palestine.” Presidential Conference Chairman Israel Maimon called the decision “outrageous” and incompatible with open, democratic dialogue.” The conference, now in its fifth year, gathers world leaders and intellectuals.
