Russia Resumes Arms Deliveries to Syria

Russia has begun preparing five MiG-31E fighter interceptors for supply to Syria, in line with a contract penned at the start of the year. This is the first deal to be implemented since a cessation of supplies, brought about by last summer’s fighting in Lebanon, according to the Russian daily Kommersant. The purchase is being funded by Iran, the daily reports. The aircraft, currently in the reserve of the Russian Air Force, are being refurbished in line with Syria’s specifications. The United States is believed to be privately urging Russia to cease its supply of arms to Syria and Iran, which Washington sees as rogue states that support terror.
