Severe Flooding in Afghanistan’s Ghor Province Claims 50 Lives

At least 50 people have been killed and 10 others are missing following severe flooding in Ghor Province, western Afghanistan, over the previous 24 hours, a local official reported on Saturday. Floodwaters inundated the Shahrak, Dulina, Laal, and Sarjangal districts, destroying 2,000 homes and 2,500 shops, according to Abdulrahman Badres, the provincial police spokesman.

The devastating floods follow earlier flash floods on May 10, which claimed seven lives in Ghor Province and affected other regions across Afghanistan, stated Abdul Wahid Hamas, spokesman for Ghor’s governor.

Heavy rainfall and floods have also disrupted road access to Ghor’s neighboring provinces, Herat and Farah, complicating relief efforts. Afghanistan has faced relentless heavy rains and flooding over the past month, resulting in significant casualties and widespread property damage.
