An unmanned American plane fired several missiles onto Pakistani territory on Wednesday just hours after the Bush administration reportedly told Islamabad it would respect Pakistani sovereignty. That statement had been made earlier in the day by the United States’ Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen during a visit to Pakistan. The target of the air strike was a base thought to be used by Taliban fighters just across the border from Afghanistan. At least six people were killed in the attack.
