A variety of grassroots organizations in the United Kingdom have launched an attack on the country’s foreign minister, Margaret Beckett, because of what they say is the failure of a report to detail Lebanese casualties from the recent fighting between Hizbullah and Israel. The report in question is the Foreign and Commonwealth Offices annual document on human-rights violations around the world. While the ministry said it had insufficient time to include all casualties in this year’s report, the complainants point to the fact that the ministry saw fit to include details of Hizbullah’s attacks on Israel and to outline its backing by Syria. The report does include a photo of a Lebanese woman standing among destroyed buildings in Beirut.
