The Wall Street Journal is reporting the latest incident on the growing list of spats between the Obama administration and Jerusalem. According to WSJ, the administration halted a shipment of Hellfire anti-armor missiles bound for the Jewish state when it learned the order had been placed directly with the Pentagon without channeling the request through the White House or State Department first. After the administration agreed to provide $225 million for the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, Israel requested lethal munitions to replace those used in Operation Protective Edge; but those requests did not require administration approval. The Journal quotes an official as saying that Israel followed all appropriate protocols. The incident underscores the growing gap in the US-Israel working relationship between the executive on one hand and the military and legislature on the other.
