An academic and an interior designer whose practice mainly focuses on the reuse of existing buildings, Graeme Brooker will explore the idea of heritage as the set of elements found on a site, to be analyzed, understood and reworked for new uses. Using his students’ work and his own, he will illustrate numerous strategies by which radical heritages can be adapted for something they were never intended for.

Graeme Brooker is a professor of interior design and head of Interiors at The Royal College of Art, London. His recent publications include Key Interiors Since 1900 (Laurence King Publishing, 2013); Adaptation Strategies for Interior Architecture and Design (Bloomsbury Visual Arts, 2016) and Brinkworth: So Good So Far (Lund Humphries Publishers Ltd, 2018). He was the founder and the director for over a decade of the charity Interior Educators (IE), the national subject association for all interior courses in the UK. A member of the editorial advisory board of the journals Interiors: Design, Architecture, Culture (Bloomsbury) and IDEA, Brooker is currently working on his latest book, The Story of the Interior to be published in 2021 (Phaidon).
