Iran Sets Deadline for Nuclear Solution

Iran has vowed it will not renew uranium enrichment but it has set a deadline for the European Union to submit proposals over the country’s nuclear program.

The EU, represented by the United Kingdom, France and Germany, is engaged in talks with Iran, trying to persuade Tehran to halt its nuclear activities in exchange for economic, technological and political incentives.

If Iran does not comply with their demands, they have threatened to back United States demands to report Iran to the United Nations Security Council for possible sanctions.

Washington believes Iran’s nuclear program is for manufacturing nuclear weapons, but Tehran insists the program is peaceful.

Iran said if the EU does not come up with proposals by Sunday afternoon, it will restart limited uranium conversion.

Conversion is the process of taking processed uranium ore and turning into a gas which can later be enriched.

EU diplomats have said they are not aware the bloc had committed itself to an August 1 deadline, since in previous talks they discussed submitting proposals by “early August.”
