U.S.: Al-Asad’s Regime Will Soon Collapse

The American administration estimates that the Syrian regime is on the verge of collapse, United States President George W. Bush told Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon this week. According to the Israeli daily Ma’ariv, the administration believes Syrian President Bashar Al-Asad will not last long after Syria’s withdrawal from Lebanon is completed.

As far as the Americans are concerned, the report said, Al-Asad has ceased to exist and they are already planning for the day after the fall of his regime.

The U.S. is angry with Syria because of the double game Syria is playing in its attitude to terror, its involvement in the neighboring Iraq, its conduct in Lebanon and its performance in general vis-à-vis the administration.

Americans have said behind closed doors that Al-Asad is “a peculiar man” who cannot be trusted and that they are waiting for him to vanish from the political arena.
