Iran, Qatar Sign Legal Assistance and Judicial Cooperation Agreement
Iran and Qatar have formalized an agreement for legal assistance in criminal matters and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on judicial cooperation. Signed in Doha by Qatar’s Attorney General Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi and Iran’s Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, the agreement contains 14 articles aimed at enhancing legal and judicial collaboration.
Key provisions include the annual exchange of data on final rulings against each other’s nationals and the handling of bilateral legal assistance requests. The MoU, with 11 clauses, focuses on sharing judicial experiences, addressing mutual legal issues, and organizing educational courses for judges and justice department officials.
During the meeting, Mohseni-Ejei emphasized the need for extended cooperation in legal assistance and extradition. Al Nuaimi expressed Qatar’s readiness to strengthen ties with Iran, highlighting the importance of implementing the agreements swiftly.
The Iranian delegation, led by Mohseni-Ejei, also met with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss further judicial collaboration.
