UK becomes first country to approve Pfizer vaccine

The UK has become the first country to allow use of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech outside of clinical trials, the companies announced on Wednesday. UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Wednesday that the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine would be ready to distribute next week. The temporary authorization is for emergency use.
