International research group in Wuhan to investigate origins of COVID-19

A World Health Organization (WHO) team of scientists arrived in Wuhan, China – the city where the first signs of the global coronavirus pandemic were publicized – to begin an effort to further understand the virus’ origins. The investigation is politically sensitive because Beijing has been highly critical of research claiming the pandemic originated in China. The 10-member group has been approved by the highest levels of the Chinese government after months of diplomatic exchanges with the WHO.
