Tehran Bolsters Defense Fleet, Adds 1,000 Long-Range Drones

Iran took delivery of 1,000 new drones on Monday, the semiofficial Tasnim news agency reported, as the country prepares for potential confrontations with Israel and the US under incoming US President Donald Trump. These drones, distributed across various locations in Iran, are said to possess high stealth capabilities and anti-fortification technology.

According to Tasnim, key features include a range of over 2,000 kilometers, high destructive power, the ability to slip past defense layers due to a low radar cross section, and autonomous flight. The drones “not only increase the depth of reconnaissance and border monitoring but also boost the combat capability of the army’s drone fleet in confronting distant targets,” the news agency added.

This latest development comes amid heightened military activities in Iran. Earlier this month, the country launched two months of military exercises that have already included war games in which the elite Revolutionary Guards simulated defending the Natanz nuclear facility against possible strikes by missiles and drones.

Iran’s ongoing efforts to expand and modernize its drone arsenal underscore the rising tension in the region. Observers note that Tehran has long sought to augment its defensive and offensive capabilities, particularly as international scrutiny over its nuclear activities persists. The looming presidency of Donald Trump has sparked additional concerns within Iranian leadership, given his administration’s stated intention to apply maximum pressure on Iran and his close ties with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
