Trump Says Iran ‘Will Be Held Responsible’ for Further Houthi Attacks

US President Donald Trump accused Iran of orchestrating the Houthis’ actions and vowed retaliation. “Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!” he wrote on Truth Social on Monday.

“Iran has played ‘the innocent victim’ of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control,” he wrote. “They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated military equipment, and even so-called intelligence.”

The Houthi movement is widely known to receive support from Iran, but experts have described the Iran-Houthi relationship as “more complex” than mere patronage, with the Houthis exerting considerable independence.

The United States launched new airstrikes against Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group over the weekend. The Houthis, who have been targeting international shipping in the Red Sea, claimed at least 53 people were killed in the latest US strikes.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Sunday that the strikes would continue until the Houthis halted attacks on US assets and global shipping. White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said US forces had eliminated several key Houthi figures.

The Houthis launched drones and missiles at the USS Harry S Truman in the Red Sea on Monday, but none reached the carrier.

Iran has yet to respond to Trump’s latest warning.
