Identities of Jewish Museum Attack Victims Revealed: One Victim Was American Involved in Peacebuilding

The identities of the two Israeli Embassy workers killed last night outside the Capital Jewish Museum have been revealed as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, a young couple who were soon to be engaged. The two were shot after having left an event put on by the American Jewish Committee highlighting humanitarian aid organizations such as IsraAID and the Multifaith Alliance.

Lischinsky reportedly moved to Israel from Germany at age 16. He worked in the embassy’s political department and had previously worked for the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority.

Milgrim, an American, joined the embassy’s public diplomacy team in 2023 after years of involvement in Israeli-Palestinian peace initiatives. According to an online profile, she had a master’s degree from the American University School of International Service and a peacebuilding certificate from the United States Institute of Peace.

Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter described the two as “a beautiful couple who came to spend an evening at Washington’s cultural center.” “He bought a ring and planned to propose to her in Jerusalem,” Leiter said.

The gunman, identified as Elias Rodriguez, a 30-year-old from Chicago, is in custody and believed to have acted alone. Witnesses said Rodriguez shouted “Free Palestine” and told the police he carried out his actions “for Gaza.”
