OPINION – President Trump Deserves a Divine Prize

We should pause partisanship to express our gratitude to the US president, negotiators, regional leaders, and unsung actors who helped secure a ceasefire and the return of hostages

Wars are dark, dirty, and destructive. They force people into scenes of horror and into mindsets that lead to acts we are not born to commit.

Ending a war is among the hardest tasks any leader can face.

President Donald Trump defied the odds and, through persistence, relationships, and tough negotiations, worked to end the brutal war between Israel and Hamas.

This is a moment to say thank you.

Thanks are due to the president of the free world; to Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner; to all the negotiators; to leaders across Israel and the Arab world who put common sense and security first; and to the unnamed heroes of this war. Their work helped return hostages, offered families the chance for closure after years of death and displacement, and rekindled hope for something better.

It is a moment to set aside differences.

It is a moment to lay down arms.

It is a moment to stop hate, because we cannot continue living if we hate more than we love.

In this moment, political differences should be put aside to reflect on the true value of life. The majority of Israelis and Palestinians are grateful that President Trump had the strength of great leaders before him—from Cyrus to Churchill—to hold his ground.

The immense death, anguish, and trauma that millions of people have endured should not be in vain.

For Israelis and Gazans, this brings relief and hope. To those who cannot see what some will call a miraculous moment, I feel sorry for you.

President Trump should not only be thanked with a Nobel Peace Prize, but also with the divine prize: the act itself.
