Egypt receives J&J vaccine shipment to inoculate travelers

Egypt has received its first shipment of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine against the coronavirus. Some 261,600 doses arrived in Egypt on Monday, in cooperation with the African Union, Reuters reported, citing the country’s Health Ministry. The newly arrived vaccines, which require only one shot, are being sent to 126 sites meant to be given to people planning to travel abroad, according to the report. Egypt has previously received doses of Sputnik, Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines, some through the COVAX program, an initiative for the distribution of vaccines to poorer countries through the World Health Organization, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and other organizations. Egypt is producing the Chinese Sinovac vaccine against the coronavirus, through a deal with Egypt’s Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines.
