India sets record for highest single-day spike in infections

India on Sunday set a world record for new cases of coronavirus, with 78,761 additional infections confirmed over the past 24 hours, according to the country’s Health Ministry. The previous single-day record was 77,638, recorded on July 17 in the United States, the AFP news agency reported.
