US will expand testing for the coronavirus

The US will expand and improve testing for the coronavirus, investing $1.6 billion for the nationwide effort. Carole Johnson, the US COVID-19 testing coordinator, made the announcement at the White House on Wednesday. The funds will pay, in part,  for testing in schools to facilitate their reopening and in underserved places such as homeless shelters, and for the manufacturing of testing supplies, and will be directed to efforts to identify and track new strains of the virus through increased genomic sequencing.
