10 Killed, Dozens Injured in Building Collapse in Iran
At least ten people were killed and dozens injured when a 10-story building collapsed in southwestern Iran on Monday. The building collapsed on a busy commercial street in the city of Abadan. Rescue crews worked throughout the night to pull dozens of people from the rubble.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation. The Metropol building’s owner and contractor have both been arrested, according to reports. Construction on the building had not yet been completed. The lower floors had been opened while work continued on the upper floors.
Following the collapse, local residents demonstrated in front of the municipality over what they angrily said was faulty construction.
