4 Killed, 4 Injured in West Bank Shooting Attack
Four people were killed and at least four others wounded on Tuesday afternoon in a shooting attack at a gas station just outside the West Bank settlement of Eli, marking a disturbing escalation of violence in the region. The Israeli military confirmed that armed Palestinians initiated the attack on the Highway 60 gas station. In the ensuing gunfire, an armed Israeli civilian killed one of the Palestinian assailants.
The Israeli military IDF initiated an extensive manhunt for any other attackers, including deploying a helicopter and setting up roadblocks. Ariel Elmaliach, the Eli settlement chairman, initially urged residents to remain indoors while the military searched the area, an instruction that has since been lifted.
Emergency medical services attended to eight wounded people at the scene. Four critically injured victims were pronounced dead during transit to the hospital. Among the wounded is a 20-year-old man now in serious but stable condition at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, set to undergo surgery for an upper body gunshot wound.
The violent incident has attracted attention from the highest levels of government, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant preparing to discuss the situation with military and security officials.
