Airstrike in Eastern Syria Kills 5 Iran-Aligned Fighters
A strike on a military vehicle in eastern Syria killed at least five fighters in pro-Iran militias, two security sources familiar with the situation said Sunday.
The two sources, who spoke to the press on the condition of anonymity, explained that the vehicle was on the Syrian side of the chaotic Syria-Iraq border region when it was hit.
One source, without disclosing the attack’s origin, claimed that a drone carried out the strike, while a second source revealed that the attack targeted fighters at a checkpoint during a shift change.

However, both Israeli and American forces have carried out strikes against Iran-aligned groups in Syria.
Pro-Iran groups aligned with Bashar Assad’s regime control large sections of Syria’s eastern border region. These militias have fought closely alongside and on behalf of Damascus and the Syrian armed forces for over a decade.
On the Iraqi side of the border, they often collaborate and work closely with other Iran-backed groups, such as Kataib Hezbollah, on combat, smuggling, and financing operations.
These groups transfer weapons from Iraq into Syria while other goods flow in the opposite direction.
