Amid Gaza’s Turmoil, Hamas Operatives’ Relatives Find Refuge in Egypt: Report
Over the past five months, a growing trend has emerged from the Gaza Strip, where residents are desperately trying to flee to Egypt via the Rafah crossing. Amid the ongoing conflict, this aspiration has become a shared yet distant dream for many, hindered by the prohibitive cost of $6,000 to $7,000 per person, a sum far beyond the reach of those caught in the struggle for survival. However, an investigation by Israel’s Channel 12 has reportedly revealed that those successfully crossing into Egypt are predominantly Hamas operatives and their families, raising significant concerns for Israel.
Among those who have managed to flee are relatives of high-ranking Hamas officials, including the five nephews of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas. Reports indicate that these relatives were recently smuggled out of Gaza alongside the children of the Hamas police spokesperson in Gaza, Ayman Albatanji, whose current status remains uncertain.
The list of individuals escaping Gaza further includes the four children of Sameh Elsraj, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, whose whereabouts have been unknown since the war’s outset, leading to speculation that he may have been eliminated in an Israeli counterattack. Additionally, the escapees feature the family of senior Hamas official Akil Alhindi and the daughter of the Hamas health minister.
