At Least 90 Rockets Fired Into Israel in Response to Killing of Hezbollah Commander

Hezbollah launched a massive volley of rockets into northern Israel on Wednesday morning, numbering at least 90 projectiles in total, the Israel Defense Forces said.

Other media indicate the attack numbered more than 160 projectiles in total.

The Israeli military reported no injuries and said that many of the missiles were intercepted, but the few that landed did ignite several fires.

The barrage took place only a few hours after an Israeli strike killed four senior Hezbollah officials, including Taleb Sami Abdullah, the most senior member of the terrorist organization believed to have been killed since war broke out in Gaza last October.

Known within the Iran-backed militia as Hajj Abu Taleb, Abdullah commanded Hezbollah’s Nasr Unit and oversaw military operations across southern Lebanon.

“This was part of a strike on a Hezbollah command and control center in the area of Jouaiyya in southern Lebanon, which was used to direct terrorist attacks against Israel from southeastern Lebanon in recent months,” the IDF said in a statement.

At the time of his death, Abdullah, along with three other officers, were meeting in a residential building only 6 miles from the Israeli border.

His death comes at a time of escalating tension in the region, as negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding a cease-fire in Gaza continue to stagnate.
