Beersheba Terror Attack Wounds 2, Attacker Neutralized at the Scene

An individual brandishing a knife attacked and wounded a 20-year-old military officer at the central bus station of the southern city of Beersheba, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday.

Magen David Adom emergency responders report finding the victim in moderate condition and treating him at the scene before transporting him to the Soroka Medical Center, where he is now stable. One other individual also reported to be a soldier, was also taken to the hospital with light injuries.

Witnesses at the scene report that the attacker was running up and down the platforms at the station with the weapon in hand.

The attacker, Naji Abu Farih, was a Bedouin citizen of Israel and a resident of Rahat. He was shot and killed by another IDF soldier present during the incident. Farih was pronounced dead after being taken to a nearby medical center.

While the investigation is currently ongoing, police say that early findings point to the attacker traveling to the station on a bus prior to the incident. As of late Sunday morning, the area is currently being searched for additional possible threats, the authorities stated.

In a statement on the incident, Beersheba Mayor Ruvik Danilovich designated the perpetrator a “terrorist” and noted he was in communication with the police commander of the Southern District.

“My thoughts are with the courageous soldier for a swift recovery. Security forces, in collaboration with the Israel Police, are deployed across the city,” Danilovich added.
