CBS: Israel’s Population Approaches 10 Million Ahead of Jewish New Year

Israel’s population is on the brink of crossing the 10 million mark, according to the latest data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) ahead of Rosh Hashanah. The CBS estimates the total population at around 9,999,000, with the milestone expected to be reached in the coming weeks.

The current population includes 7.689 million Jews, non-Arab Christians, and other ethnic minorities, alongside 2.095 million Muslim Arabs. Additionally, there are 215,000 foreign nationals residing in Israel. Jews make up 78.6% of the total population, while Arabs account for 21.4%.

The population has grown by 118,000 people, or 1.2%, over the past year. This is a slight decrease from the previous year’s growth rate of 1.6%. The CBS recorded 183,000 births and 55,000 deaths over the past 12 months.

Migration figures show 33,000 new immigrants arrived in Israel, down from 46,000 in 2023, with a net negative migration trend attributed to changes in the CBS’s method of counting Israelis living abroad. The ongoing conflict in Gaza and along the Lebanese border has not significantly affected overall migration data.
