Dozens of Migrants Reported Missing in Shipwreck Off of Italy
At least 64 people are missing following a shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea off Italy’s southern coast, the United Nations said Monday evening. Citing survivors, the UN reported that the ship set sail from Turkey about 10 days earlier and was transporting individuals hailing from Iran, Syria, and Iraq.

The Media Line's intrepid correspondents are in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Pakistan providing first-person reporting.
They all said they cover it.
We see it.
We report with just one agenda: the truth.

The ship allegedly caught fire about 125 miles off the coast of Cambria, prompting the crew to issue a mayday call, to which the Italian and Greek coast guards responded. The ship had been sailing near the naval border between the two states, where both countries often carry out search and rescue operations. Alongside the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, a detachment from the European border and coast guard agency Frontex also assisted in the rescue.
In a separate incident, German aid group Resqship reported rescuing dozens of suspected migrants from a shipwreck off the coast of Italy’s tiny Lampedusa Island. However, the humanitarian group reported finding at least 10 bodies beneath the deck of the small boat in question. “Our crew was able to evacuate 51 people, two of whom were unconscious,” Resqship noted. “The 10 dead were on the flooded lower deck of the boat.”
