Electrical Short Circuit Triggers Fatal Fire in Iraqi Children’s Hospital
A devastating fire engulfed a women’s and children’s hospital in Diwaniyah, a city in southern Iraq, resulting in the loss of four children and causing suffocation injuries to more than 20 people on Monday. An anonymous source from the Interior Ministry revealed that the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit in the evening, leading to smoke rapidly spreading through the hospital corridors.
As the situation escalated, approximately 150 patients were swiftly relocated to other medical facilities. After several hours, Iraqi civil defense teams successfully extinguished the blaze.
In response to this calamity, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani ordered the immediate dismissal of hospital officials deemed responsible for the negligence leading to the fire. This directive was confirmed in a statement issued by his media office.
