France Issues Arrest Warrants for Syrian President Assad Over War Crimes
Over 1,000 killed in Eastern Ghouta incident
French investigative judges have issued arrest warrants for Syrian President Bashar Assad, his brother Maher Assad, and two other high-ranking officials.
These warrants are in response to their alleged involvement in using banned chemical weapons against civilians. The warrants are based on charges of complicity in crimes against humanity and war crimes, stemming from a criminal investigation into the chemical attacks in Eastern Ghouta in August 2013.
These attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people. The issuance of these warrants marks a significant step in the international community’s efforts to address the Syrian conflict’s human rights violations.
