Houthi Forces Target US Warships and Israel in Coordinated Strikes
Early Wednesday, a ballistic missile launched from Yemen by the Iran-backed Houthi group triggered air raid sirens in Haifa and northern Israel for the first time, forcing over a million residents to seek shelter. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the missile was intercepted by air defenses. Though no direct injuries were reported, emergency services treated several people who were hurt while rushing to safety.
The Houthi missile, part of a broader campaign that resumed after Israel renewed its military offensive in Gaza in March, marks the latest escalation in a conflict that has increasingly drawn in regional actors. Since October 2023, the Houthis have fired over 40 ballistic missiles and numerous drones toward Israel, targeting both civilian and military areas. The group paused its attacks during a brief ceasefire between Israel and Hamas earlier this year but resumed once the truce collapsed.

Truth and understanding
The Media Line's intrepid correspondents are in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Pakistan providing first-person reporting.
They all said they cover it.
We see it.
We report with just one agenda: the truth.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have declared their support for Hamas and vow to continue targeting Israel until the war in Gaza ends. Their slogan includes the phrase “Death to Israel, a Curse on the Jews,” and their actions have prompted retaliatory strikes from both Israel and the United States.
In a separate development, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea claimed responsibility for shooting down a US MQ-9 drone over Yemen’s Hajjah province. He also announced attacks on two US aircraft carriers—the USS Harry S. Truman and the USS Carl Vinson—using cruise missiles and drones.
US forces have been conducting near-daily airstrikes against Houthi infrastructure since mid-March. Tensions continue to rise as the Houthis vow to escalate their operations unless Israel halts its campaign in Gaza and lifts the blockade.
