Houthi Group Asserts Successful Attack on ‘Israeli’ Ship in Arabian Sea
Yemen’s Houthi rebels have announced that they successfully targeted the MSC Sarah V, a Liberian-flagged vessel sailing in the Arabian Sea, using a newly developed ballistic missile. This assertion came on Tuesday, following initial reports of an attack on the vessel a day prior.
The Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Joint Maritime Information Center reported on Monday that although the MSC Sarah V was targeted, it was not hit by the missile. The center suggested that the vessel was likely targeted due to a perceived association with Israel.

Yahya Sarea, the spokesperson for the Yemeni rebel group, contradicted these reports by claiming an “accurate and direct” hit on the ship, which he described as “Israeli.” Despite these claims, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations confirmed that the crew was safe and that the vessel continued its journey, sailing 246 nautical miles off Yemen’s Nishtun toward its next port of call.
The Iran-aligned Houthis have intensified their maritime assaults since November, justifying their actions as acts of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. Over the course of these hostilities, the rebels have successfully sunk two ships, seized another, and been responsible for the deaths of at least three seafarers.
